About Me

Hello, my name is Kim, and I am the owner of QuiltBitz.

Located in the scenic Rocky Mountains - Cranbrook, BC. Strictly an online studio servicing all across Canada.

In February 2022, I purchased QuiltBitz. Having my own quilt shop has been on my bucket list. From a very young age I would sit at the sewing machine and create, with whatever materials I could find laying around, not even having a pattern. One creation I made my dad a fish out of bright red cord, black top thread and navy bobbin thread, paper for stuffing and let's just say it is very interesting the front and the back are not the same size, and the eyes aren't lined up. When my dad passed away, I found that fish and it is something now cherished. Through the years I made many pieces of clothing and even made my own grad dress that both my cousin and I wore for our grads. So, my love for sewing begun long ago.

December of 1998 I was laid off from my corporate job and relocated to Edson, Alberta. What was I going to do with this slower pace, not knowing anyone and nothing to do in this small town.  Having lived in bigger cities all my life, I quickly became lost. So downtown Edson I went and found the local quilt shop on main street.  I walked in knowing nothing about quilting, only sewing and asked what I can make having never quilted.  I got the fabric and pattern to make "A Trip Around the World". So, there it began.  I eventually connected with other quilters and the love for quilting and fabric. Here I am now still quilting and collecting fabric.  A very close dear friend of mine still meet annually and do nothing but quilt.

I am very fortunate to have had my husband that is very supportive and is my shipper/receiver, (LOL). He pulls the bolts for me to cut stacking them in order of the order, takes the packages to the post office and carries the boxes of bolts to the loft when they arrive. Who thought fabric could weigh so much?

Since moving QuiltBitz out west I have been trying new things and carrying on with what a part of the business the way it has been from the beginning. Your opinions are all so important to me, and I use them to help shape my store and its inventory. From my humble beginnings until now, it has been nothing but a pleasure serving all of you!

I carefully select the newest releases and hope that these will inspire your next creation.  As my shop continues to evolve more collections will be added as well as more bundles, kits and patterns.  This is a work in progress, and I value your comments and input as we move along.

As a long time, quilter, I am passionate about sharing my love of quilting and spreading inspiration and knowledge to everyone that wants to learn. I also love learning from others and look forward to a wonderful journey with you!
